Tfl Boy 17 Arrested Over London Transport Cyber Hack

TfL: Boy, 17, arrested over London transport cyber hack

Police arrest 17-year-old in connection with cyber attack on TfL

The National Crime Agency (NCA) has arrested a 17-year-old boy in connection with a cyber attack on Transport for London (TfL) earlier this year.

The attack, which took place on August 10, 2023, disrupted TfL's online services, including its website and mobile app.

The NCA said the boy was arrested on suspicion of unauthorized access to computer material and unauthorized access with intent to impair the operation of a computer.

He has been bailed until a later date.

The Metropolitan Police Service is also investigating the attack.

TfL said it is working with the police and the NCA to investigate the attack and take appropriate action.

The company said it is also taking steps to improve its cybersecurity measures.

The attack on TfL is the latest in a series of cyber attacks on critical infrastructure in the UK.

In 2022, the NHS was hit by a ransomware attack that disrupted services across the country.

The government has said it is committed to improving the UK's cybersecurity and has announced a number of measures to do so, including investing in new technologies and working with businesses and academia to share information and best practices.

Here are some tips to help protect yourself from cyber attacks:

  • Use strong passwords and change them regularly.
  • Be careful about what you click on in emails and on the internet.
  • Keep your software up to date.
  • Back up your data regularly.
  • Be aware of the signs of a cyber attack, such as unusual activity on your computer or network.

If you think you have been the victim of a cyber attack, report it to the police and the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).

The NCSC can provide advice and support on how to protect yourself from cyber attacks.
